Here at Steven S. Shaw D.M.D, we love meeting new patients. Part of easing your concerns is explaining what you can expect from our practice.

During your initial appointment, which is usually 2 hours long, the first hour is with the dentist, who will do a clinical exam which involves charting existing restorations, detection of any cavities which may be present, performing a periodontal exam and oral pathology screening and may also update your radiographs if necessary. The second hour would be with your hygienist to carry out a thorough cleaning. You can also break up this first appointment into two separate 1–hour
appointments at different days if that suits you best.

We do require you contact your previous dentist and ask them to forward your dental records at: info@backcovedental.com. We use an encrypted subscriber service to receive these records.

We also ask you bring your insurance card (if you do have dental insurance) at the time of your first appointment.

Once set up, you can either go to our website and fill in the patient forms online or come in and manually fill them in before your first appointment.
